Clinical Practice Area
One of the clinical practice areas where interest groups are attempting to bring about a change in clinical care or systems of service delivery is in the treatment of cancer. Sung et al. (2021) assert that cancer ranks as a leading cause of mortalities and a significant barrier to people attaining an increasing life expectancy in every country around the globe. Notably, cancer ranks as the third or fourth leading cause of mortalities in 112 out of 183 countries around the world (Sung et al., 2020). In the United States, cancer is the second leading cause of death (Siegel et al., 2023). The global public health problem presented by cancer is aggravated by its high economic burden. For instance, in 2020, the healthcare cost of cancer in the United States was estimated at $157 billion (Bona et al., 2021). Therefore, due to the high mortality rate, prevalence and economic burden associated with cancer, a new, game-changing research finding in this area of practice would receive worldwide attention.
Interest Groups on Game-changing Research Findings in this Area of Practice
If new game-changing research findings are published regarding the treatment of cancer, such as the development of a significantly cheaper treatment option, several interest groups would undoubtedly take notice. One of these interest groups would be patient advocacy organizations focused on cancer such as the American Cancer Society and various cancer support groups. Cheaper treatment options could mean increased accessibility and affordability for patients, potentially improving their overall quality of life. Healthcare providers and institutions would be keenly interested in such findings. A more cost-effective treatment approach could have far-reaching implications for their practice and the well-being of their patients. Pharmaceutical companies and manufacturers of cancer treatment equipment may also be affected since they would need to adapt to a potentially shifting landscape. Besides the above interest groups, policymakers and government agencies responsible for healthcare would closely follow these findings since they could have significant implications for healthcare budgets and policies.
Likely Reaction to the New Research
Patient advocacy organizations would likely welcome the new research with enthusiasm, seeing it as a promising step towards improved accessibility and affordability of cancer treatment. Healthcare providers and institutions might approach the findings with a mix of anticipation and caution since they would need to evaluate the clinical efficacy and integration of the cheaper treatment option into their existing practices. Pharmaceutical companies and equipment manufacturers may initially view the development with some apprehension since it could disrupt established markets. They might also see opportunities for innovation and adaptation. Policymakers and government agencies would likely scrutinize the research closely, considering the potential impact on healthcare budgets and policies.

The Opioid Crisis
The latest game-changing research indicates that the use of opioids in medical care may not be as effective as it was assumed earlier. The latest studies also indicate that opioids may lead to more harm than benefits and interest groups are now considering better and safer ways to use the drug in terms of prescription. The game-changing practice is changing the prescription of opioids in medical care (Jones et al., 2019). In addition, many people who have used opioids for medical intervention have been reported to develop a tendency towards the drug. Therefore, apart from the prescription it is essential to change how opioids are being used by creating public awareness on the dangers of opioid addiction. Interest groups are also working to change the way opioids are being manufactured to reduce the dangers associated with their use.
The effect groups associated with the use of opioids in medical care are the medical service providers, patients and the general public. Medical service providers are an interest group because the new study would enable them to know how to safely prescribe opioids with minimal repercussions (Kertesz & Gordon, 2019). Patients also need to know about the dangers and benefits of using opioids. The general public is also an interest group because it is essential to create public awareness of the risks associated with opioid use and how they can effectively deal with people who are negatively affected by opioids.
For a long time, opioids have been widely used to administer healthcare to people. This was not an issue until the latest study revealed that there might be better alternatives than the drug or changing the way it is administered may have significant positive impacts. The interest groups are striving to change how opioids are being used to administer healthcare. Teaching materials and activities can be effectively created by the utilization of appropriate measures and prescription of opioids to patients by the interest groups to minimize opioid dependency. Additionally, the dangers of opioid addiction are normally adverse and can even lead to death if the victim does not receive immediate medical care (Kertesz & Gordon, 2019).
In conclusion, it is important for interest groups which include patients, medical service providers and the general public to devise better methods of prescribing and administering opioids (Jones et al., 2019). This is because the negative effects of opioid affects them all in different ways. The new study findings can also significantly be utilized by all the interest groups to reduce the negative effects of opioid. Additionally, the manufacturing of opioids should also change.
