Designing a jail is often a many iteration task, which takes all the material available in an evidence based form, in a method to meet the needs of the inmates and staff. Textbooks and academic papers do not often develop information regarding staff desires in supporting a jail. It is being found this provides design issues which are an afterthought. How do you combat this afterthought?
Which comes first, jail design or jail capacity? What are some factors which must be reviewed in designing a jail. There are many architectural companies in the nation who will design a jail for your jurisdiction. Does the county and/or administrator have any responsibility of designing a jail? You say you want a 500-person jail housing both men and women. Do you believe this is sufficient for those who have been told to develop a jail? How do you believe a jail administrator should be involved?
